Postoperative pain is the physical discomfort that occurs after surgery. It is a normal response of the body to a surgical procedure, resulting from incisions, tissue manipulation, and the inflammatory process. While most cases resolve within days or weeks, in some patients the pain persists for more than three months, becoming chronic post-surgical pain that interferes with recovery and overall quality of life.
This type of pain may be described as sharp, burning, electric, or constant, and can significantly affect mobility, sleep, and emotional well-being.
